Jacob M atthews, son of Joseph Sr., had lived in Southampton County,
Virginia and lat er in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. After 1771, he
purchased large amoun ts of land on Neills Creek and Buies Creek in what
is now Harnett County and lived there.
